As Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd celebrates its 25th Anniversary, the Watermill Theatre production, transfers to the Trafalgar Studios, opening 27 July 2004, following previews from 22 July, and booking to 9 Oct 2004.

The cast of nine actor-musicians comprises Paul Hegarty (Sweeney Todd), Karen Mann (Mrs Lovett), Michael Howcroft (Beadle), Rebecca Jackson (Beggar Woman), Stephanie Jacob (Pirelli), Rebecca Jenkins (Johanna), Sam Kenyon (Tobias) David Ricardo-Pearce (Anthony), Colin Wakefield (The Judge).

It is directed and designed by John Doyle, with arrangements and musical direction by Sarah Travis and lighting by Richard G Jones.

John Doyle's production of Sweeney Todd opened at the Watermill in February this year and has recently completed a national tour.

This musical thriller is set in darkest Victorian England and tells the infamous tale of Sweeney Todd - the demon barber of Fleet Street - who seeks revenge when a malicious Judge frames him, ravages his young wife and kidnaps his daughter Johanna. Together with Mrs Lovett - the enterprising proprietress of the pie shop downstairs - the pair form an innovative business partnership cooking up blood-curdling results.
