It has been announced that The Mentalists, Richard Bean's comedy at the Wyndham's Theatre starring Stephen Merchant in his West End debut will close early, ending performances on Saturday 29 August 2015.

The production opened officially on 13 July 2015, following previews from 3 July, and was expected to run until 26 September 2015. It was met with mixed-to-negative reviews upon opening, with our critic saying it "Never quite reaches a summit of laughter".

Merchant plays the role of Ted, alongside Steffan Rhodri as Morrie in what is described as a "comic two hander". The production is directed by Abbey Wright, with set design by Richard Kent and lighting by David Plater. It is produced in the West End by Old Vic Productions, Smith & Brant Theatricals and Steven Harris in association with Jimmy Jewell Ltd.

Synopsis: "Holed up in a faceless Finsbury Park hotel room, Ted and Morrie are forced to confront the darker side of their unique relationship. Things unravel as the pressure mounts in this 'hilarious' and touching tale of friendship and utopian visions gone awry."
