THEATRE STARS HONOURED IN NEW YEAR'S LIST

Lynn Redgrave, Denis Quilley, Miriam Margolyes, Ben Kingsley and Barbara Dickson have been honoured in the 2002 New Year's Honours List announced today.

 Lynn Redgrave has been awarded an OBE. Her most recent West End performance was in "NOISES OFF" at the Piccadilly Theatre earlier this year. She also starred in her own one-woman show "SHAKESPEARE FOR MY FATHER" at the Haymarket in 1996.

 Denis Quilley has been awarded an OBE. He currently features in the Royal National Theatre's production of "HUMBLE BOY". His many other London appearances include MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR (Olivier NT 1995); TEMPEST, THE (Open Air 1996 ); WAITING FOR GODOT (Old Vic 1997); KING LEAR (Old Vic 1997); TROILUS AND CRESSIDA (Olivier NT 1999); CANDIDE (Olivier NT 1999);MONEY (Olivier NT 1999); HAMLET (Lyttelton NT 2000).

 Miriam Margolyes has been awarded an OBE. Her most recent West End performance was in "THE VAGINA MONLOGUES" at the Arts Theatre. Her other West End credits include "THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE" at the New Ambassadors in 1995.

 Barbara Dickson the singer & Actress has been awarded an OBE. She won an Olivier Award for her performance in "SPEND SPEND SPEND" in 2000.

 Ben Kingsley has been knighted. The Oscar-winning star of the film Gandhi joined the RSC in 1970, and starred in Peter Brook's production of "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM" before going on to play the title roles in "HAMLET" and "OTHELLO". His last West End stage appearance was in "WAITING FOR GODOT" at the Old Vic in 1997.
