The Arcola Theatre and CASA Latin American Theatre Festival have announced that Thebes Land will run at the Arcola Theatre in Dalston, east London from 30 November to 23 December 2016, with an official opening on 5 November.

"How could anyone kill their own father? One of the rarest and most shocking crimes known to man is interrogated in this daring new play, with the on-stage participation of convicted patricide Martin Santos." Described as an electrifying tale about retribution and justice, love and masculinity, the play has previously been seen in eight countries worldwide.

Written by Franco-Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco it has been adapted and directed by Daniel Goldman, with a literal translation by Rob Cavazos. It features design by Jemima Robinson, lighting and video design by Richard Williamson and sound design by Elena Pena.

The production will star Trevor White and Alex Austin and will be staged inside a large protective cage.

Director Daniel Goldman said of the piece: "When I saw the original Uruguayan production of Thebes Land at a festival in Colombia, I came out physically shaking with joy at what the play was doing. It's both a play about patricide and play about making plays. It's very funny, very clever, very moving - at its heart it's an impossible love story - but above all else, it's a play that twists, turns and surprises throughout, juggling different layers of reality."

Tickets for the production are now on sale.
