Our hearts will go on! New cast members have been announced for *Titanique* in the West End, taking over from the original cast from 10 June.

The musical comedy, which won the 2025 Olivier Award for Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play, reimagines the blockbuster film *Titanic*, asking what really happened to Jack and Rose on that fateful night?  

The cast will include Luke Bayer (*Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, RENT*) as Jack, Richard Carson (*Les Misérables, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat*) as Cal, Hiba Elchikhe (*The Time Travellers Wife, Aladdin*) as Rose, Carl Mullaney (*La Cage Aux Folles, Les Misérables*) as Ruth, Tosh Wanogho-Maud (*Robin Hood - Palladium Pantomime, The Drifters Girl*) as The Iceberg, and Caitlin Tipping (*SIX, Frozen the Musical*) as offstage Understudy.  

They join original West End cast members Darren Bennett as Victor Garber / Luigi, Lauren Drew as Céline Dion, Charlotte Wakefield as Molly Brown, Adrianne Langley, Madison Swan and Rodney Vubya as on-stage background vocalists, as well as offstage understudy Freddie King.

*Titanique* had its world premiere in Los Angeles in 2017. In June 2022, it opened Off Broadway and transferred to Broadway in November 2022. The musical earned three Lucille Lortel Awards in 2023, including for Outstanding Musical. Now, the hit show comes to London's West End. 

One of the show's producers, Michael Harrison, said, "When I first saw *Titanique* in New York, I thought it was the funniest show I had ever seen. Every time I have returned since, I have only loved it more, and I was determined to bring it to London so audiences here could also be thrilled by its irresistible joy."

*Titanique* is a musical with a talented creative team, including writers Marla Mindelle, Constantine Rousouli, and Tye Blue, who is also the show director. Gabriel Hainer Evansohn and Grace Laubacher are the set designers, Alejo Vietti is the costume designer, Paige Seber is the lighting designer, Lawrence Schober is the sound designer, and choreography is by Ellenore Scott.

## What to watch for

- *Titanique* is a musical that includes some aspects that are partially improvised. 
- This musical includes a few pop culture references, including *Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt* and *RuPaul's Drag Race*. 
- Writer [Marla Mindelle said](https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/how-titanique-the-celine-dion-musical-became-the-hottest-show-in-new-york) of the writing process, "When we were writing it, we were just telling each other things to see if we could make each other laugh…And then we did it for audiences, and they were losing their minds."

Rob Houchen will star as Jack in *Titanique*, when it opens at the Criterion Theatre in the West End.

Houchen gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Marius in *Les Misérables* in the West End, remaining with the show until its 30th anniversary. Houchen also starred as the lead in *The Light in the Piazza* and appeared in Les Misérables on Broadway. His other credits include *Heathers: The Musical, West Side Story*, and *The Bridges of Madison County*.

Lauren Drew will play Céline Dion in Titanique, when it sets sail to the Criterion Theatre in the West End.

She gained recognition for her role as an understudy and later as a lead in the West End production of Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss's musical *Six*, where she portrayed the role of Catherine of Aragon. Drew’s other credits include Fantine in *Les Misérables* as part of a UK tour and Brooke Wyndham in *Legally Blonde* at Regents Park Open Air Theatre.

The Criterion Theatre is a gem of Victorian architecture located in the bustling heart of London, nestled within the world-famous Piccadilly Circus. Hidden away underground, this grand and storied venue brims with rich history and elegance. Built in 1874 by architect Thomas Verity, and designed in a striking Italian Renaissance style, the theatre seats 588 people across three levels. Notably, it is constructed predominantly from concrete, a characteristic unusual for its time. The theatre's magnificent gilded interior and treasured Criterion Bar sublimely enhance the overall patron experience.

Over the years, the Criterion Theatre has been the host to a variety of productions spanning several genres, including comedies, dramas, thrillers, musical concerts, and matinees. Its 'Criterion New Writing Programme' reflects its commitment towards nurturing potential playwrights and encouraging new work.

### How to Get There

The Criterion Theatre is conveniently served by several modes of public transportation. The nearest Tube station is Piccadilly Circus, served by the Piccadilly and Bakerloo lines, a mere two-minute walk away. Numerous bus routes run along Piccadilly, Regent Street, and Shaftesbury Avenue, making the venue easily accessible. However, due to its central location, parking is limited and it's advisable to use public transportation if possible. The venue is within London’s Congestion Charge Zone, and for those choosing to drive, nearby parking is available at Q Park Chinatown in Newport Place.

When the Criterion Theatre first opened in 1873, the space was designed as a concert hall. The Criterion Theatre is the only West End theatre to be situated almost entirely underground — even the Upper Circle is not at street level. 

The Criterion Theatre housed comic opera in its early years, including works by W. S. Gilbert and George Grossmith. A decade after opening, the theatre had to be renovated to meet the Metropolitan Board of Works standards for ventilation. This work also saw the installation of electricity to the theatre. The building surrounding the theatre was extensively rebuilt between 1989 and 1992, but the Victorian auditorium was well-preserved and still stands today. 

Notable shows at the Criterion Theatre include *The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)* by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, the long-running play *The 39 Steps* and Mischief Theatre's *The Comedy About A Bank Robbery*.

## Criterion Theatre Seating Information

The auditorium has three levels – Stalls, Dress Circle and Upper Circle.

The front rows of the Stalls offers good views of the stage, though the seating is not raked steeply. 

The Dress Circle has specifically designated ‘restricted view’ seats due to the number of pillars supporting the Upper Circle in Row C.
