Claire Skinner and Toby Stephens are set to star in a West End revival of the Peter Nichols play A Day in the Death of Joe Egg later this year.

The play tells the story of a couple whose marriage is on the brink as they have spent every moment caring for their daughter Josephine, who suffers from cerebral palsy, since she was born. The new production will be directed by Simon Evans at Trafalgar Studios, where Evans recently directed Orlando Bloom in Killer Joe.

A Day in the Death of Joe Egg will run at Trafalgar Studios from 21st September to 30th November.

Toby Stephens will play Bri in the play. Stephens is known for his screen appearances such as Bond villain in Gustav Graves in Die Another Day, or the recent Netflix thriller series Lost in Space. On stage, he last appeared in the West End in Oslo at the National and Harold Pinter Theatres.

Claire Skinner will play Sheila. Her stage credits include Florian Zeller's Olivier Award-winning play The Father, as well as Barney Norris' play at the Bridge Theatre, Nightfall. On-screen, she is known to many for playing Sue Brockman in the TV series Outnumbered.

Further casting is yet to be announced.

The play has been seen in London before; its premiere production transferred from Glasgow to the West End in 1967, and it was revived in October 2001 at the Ambassadors Theatre starring Clive Owen (who was later replaced by Eddie Izzard) and Victoria Hamilton.

A Day in the Death of Joe Egg is at Trafalgar Studios from 21st September to 30th November.
