Young Vic 2017 Season sees Billie Piper return in Yerma

The Young Vic Theatre have announced details of their upcoming new season which will see the Evening Standard Award-winner Billie Piper return to the role of Yerma following the production's sold out run in 2016.

Yerma, which has been adapted by Simon Stone, will run at the Young Vic from 26 July to 31 August 2017. Maureen Beattie, Brendan Cowell, John MacMillan and Charlotte Randle will all re-join Piper in the cast. The production received excellent reviews and was one of London Theatre's Top 10 Plays of 2016.

The season will also include a new production of Brecht's play The Life of Galileo which will be directed by Joe Wright. Starring Brendan Cowell, the production will be designed by Lizzie Clachlan and run from 6 May to 24 June 2017.

Juliet Stevenson will return to the Young Vic in a new production of Arthur Kopit's Pulitzer-nominated play Wings, directed by Natalie Abrahami. The drama follows a woman who struggles to make sense of her world after she suffers a stroke and will run from 14 September to 28 October 2017.

Ramin Gray and David Greig's production of The Suppliant Women will make its London premiere following its successful run in Edinburgh. Adapted from Aeschylus' ancient Greek play the production will feature a community chorus and will run from 13 to 25 November 2017.

Elsewhere in the Young Vic the Maria Studio Theatre will house Taha, the story of Palestinian poet Taha Muhammad Ali, written and performed by Amer Hlehel from 5 to 15 July 2017 along with a new play called Nina created by Josette Bushell-Mingo about Nina Simone which will run in July. How to Win Against History, Seiriol Davies' musical about the 5th Marquis of Anglesey will run in November 2017.

Public booking for the season goes on sale on Wednesday 1 February 2017.
