Young Vic’s The Inheritance to transfer to West End following sell-out run

The Young Vic's production of Matthew Lopez's two-part drama The Inheritance is set to transfer to the West End later this year.

Following a sell-out run at the Young Vic, the production, which features a cameo by Vanessa Redgrave, will run at the Noel Coward Theatre from 21st September. Tickets for The Inheritance go on sale on Friday.

Lopez's play, which is directed by Stephen Daldry, is inspired by EM Forster's novel Howards End, and has been likened to Tony Kushner's Angels in America as it explores what life is like for the gay community in New York a generation after the AIDS crisis.

In a five-star review for LondonTheatre.co.uk, Mark Shenton said the piece, which clocks in at around seven hours over two parts (although this is set to be trimmed for the West End run), is like "binging on a particularly good TV box set".

"Stephen Daldry's masterly production, mostly performed on a bare wooden platform of a set that occasionally opens up to other vistas in Bob Crowley's beautiful design, is stunningly moving. I wept copiously at the end of both parts; it invites and demands an emotional response."

The play was staged as one of David Lan's final productions as artistic director at the Young Vic before he left his post after almost two decades at the helm.

Kyle Soller, Andrew Burnap, John Benjamin Hickey and Paul Hilton were among the cast at the Young Vic, playing two couples in the play which tells overlapping stories of a group of gay friends in New York.  The majority of the West End cast will transfer, including Burnap, Hilton, Hickey, Soller and Redgrave, plis Hugo Bolton, Robert Boulter, Hubert Burton,  Samuel H. Levine, Syrus Lowe,  Michael Marcus and Michael Walters.

The Inheritance will run at the Noel Coward Theatre from 21st September until 5th January, following a run at the Young Vic which ends on 19th May.

The Inheritance Tickets go on sale on Friday.
