Born in 1952 in Guildford, Celia Imrie attended the Guildford School of Acting. She is best known for her collaborations with Victoria Wood, with whom she has appeared in a number of TV programmes including Dinnerladies and Victoria Wood As Seen On TV, in which she played the infamous role of Miss Babs in a parody of British soap opera Crossroads. In 2005, the show became a West End musical with Imrie reprising her role and winning an Olivier Award.
Imrie made her stage debut in 2005 in Unsuspecting Susan, later starring in Plague Over England. She has also starred in The Rivals, Margaret in Polar Bears at the Donmar Warehouse. and Noises Off at the Old Vic Theatre, which later moved to the Novello Theatre. Recently, Imrie has also been in *King Lear* at the Old Vic alongside Glenda Jackson and Jane Horrocks. She also took part in the Pinter at the Pinter season at the Harold Pinter Theatre, appearing in *Party Time/Celebration* alongside Tracy Ann Oberman.
