Video: TriOperas is ‘the perfect introduction to opera’
A night at the opera can be an intimidating prospect for those who don't know their arias from their altos, but it shouldn't have to be that way. That's what Pamela Tan-Nicholson is trying to change with her new production TriOperas, which packs three operatic stories into half-hour chunks to encourage more people to try opera.
She's taken Carmen, Madame Butterfly and Turandot, cut them into palatable thirty-minute sections, and borrowed from a whole range of genres - hip hop, circus and rock to name a few - to create a spectacle to introduce the art form to people who may have steered clear of the Royal Opera House in the past.
Pamela told us about her aims and motivations behind the project, along with the show's three leads.
TriOperas is at the Peacock Theatre until 1st July.
TriOperas tickets are available now.
