Antony Sher will star in his own play I.D, which opens at the Almeida Theatre, in Islington, on 4 Sep 03, following previews from 28 Aug 03, and booking to 18 Oct 03

Antony Sher's London stage credits include "Titus Andronicus" at the Cottesloe, NT in 1995; "Stanley" at the Cottesloe, NT in 1996; "Cyrano De Bergerac" at the Lyric Theatre in 1997;"Winter's Tale" at the Barbican in 1999; "Macbeth" at the Young Vic" in 2000; "Mahler's Conversion" at the Aldwych in 2001; and most recently "The Malcontent" and "The Roman Actor" at the Gielgud.

The cast also includes: Jon Cartwright, Jonathan Duff, Alex Ferns, Paul Herzberg, Christopher Wells and Jennifer Woodburne.

It is directed by Nancy Meckler and designed by Katrina Lindsay

On 6th September 1966 South African Prime Minister Hendrick Verwoerd was stabbed to death in Parliament by messenger Demetrios Tsafendas. I.D. is an epic portrait of the mad Old South Africa and of two individuals, the Prime Minister and his killer, both searching for the same thing - identity.
