Billie Piper stars as Yerma at the Young Vic

The Young Vic Theatre have announced that Billie Piper will star in the title role of Yerma by Simon Stone after Federico García Lorca, which runs at the Young Vic Theatre in south London from 28 July to 24 September 2016, with an official opening on 4 August 2016.

"Yerma tells the story of a woman whose inability to have a child tears her life apart. Her fierce desire to be a mother is met with painful indifference by her husband - provoking a desperate reaction".

Billie Piper's previous theatre credits include 'Great Britain', 'The Effect' (National Theatre), 'Reasons To Be Pretty' (Almeida) and 'Treats' (Garrick). She is widely known for her work on TV which includes 'Penny Dreadful', 'Doctor Who', 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl' and 'Mansfield Park'.

Simon Stone is one of Australia's leading theatre directors. His adaptation of 'The Wild Duck' played at London's Barbican Theatre, and he is currently working with Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Münchner Kammerspiele, Burgtheater Wien and TheatreBasel.

The production features design by Lizzie Clachan, costumes by Alice Babidge, light by James Farncombe and music and sound by Stefan Gregory.
