Caroline O’Connor to star in The Rink at Southwark Playhouse
Actress Caroline O'Connor is set to star in a revival of Kander and Ebb's musical The Rink at Soutwark Playhouse this summer.
The actress, who is currently starring in the Broadway musical Anastasia, understudied the role of Angel during a London run of the musical in 1988 the Cambridge Theatre. Her other theatre credits also include Nini in the Baz Luhrmann film Moulin Rouge, Velma Kelly in Chicago on Broadway, and she was nominated for an Olivier Award in 1996 for her role in Mack and Mabel.
O'Connor will play Anna in the musical, an Italian housewife who is set to sell the ice rink she owns to developers, although her plans are put on hold when her estranged daughter Angel shows up hoping to save the ice rink and her relationship with her mother. The show has a book by Terrence McNally, music by John Kander and Lyrics by Fred Ebb.
The show was first seen on Broadway in 1984 starring Chita Riviera and Liza Minelli, and the 1988 London premiere starred Josephine Blake and Diane Langton.
Adam Lenson directs the production which will have choreography by Fabian Aloise, and musical direction by Joe Bunker.
The Rink is at Southwark Playhouse until 25th May to 23rd June.
