Initial casting has been announced for spoof musical Ruthless, which gets its UK premiere in London at the Arts Theatre from March.

The musical tells the story of 8-year-old Tina Denmark who will stop at nothing to play the lead role in her school's upcoming play. The musical, which has a book and lyrics by Joel Paley, and music by Marvin Laird, Ruthless was first performed Off-Broadway in 1992, and is known for famously spoofing Broadway musicals such as Gypsy and Mame.

The production, which is directed by Richard Fitch, will feature Jason Gardiner, Lara Denning, Kim Maresca, Harriet Thorpe and Tracie Bennett.

The musical will run at the Arts Theatre form 16th March to 23rd June, with an official opening on 27th March.

Tracie Bennet, who recently appeared in the National Theatre's production of Follies, will play Lita. Jason Gardiner, known for being the lead judge on ITV's Dancing on Ice, will play Sylvia St. Croix. Lara Denning (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾, Menier Chocolate Factory) plays Louise Lerman/Eve, Kim Maresca (who recently appeared in Ruthless Off-Broadway) plays Judy Denmark, and Harriet Thorpe (Absolutley Fabulous) plays Myrna Thorn.

The children cast in the role of Tina Denmark will be announced soon.

Ruthless the Musical is at the Arts Theatre from 16th March.
