The full casting has been announced for Tartuffe, which will play at the National Theatre in 2019.

Written by Molière in the seventeenth century, Tartuffe has been adapted by John Donnelly, refreshed for a contemporary audience in the modern day. A tale of power and hypocrisy, Tartuffe centres around Orgon, a man who lives a comfortable life in his home with his family. Surrounded by money, he later invites a stranger named Tartuffe into his household, who deceives Orgon with his seducing ways.

Denis O' Hare will make his National Theatre debut as the title role, with previous theatre credits including Sweet Charity at the Al Hirschfield Theatre on Broadway as well as Take Me Out at the Donmar Warehouse, which later transferred to Broadway and subsequently saw O' Hare receive his first Tony Award for best performance by a featured actor in a play.

Kevin Doyle will play alongside O'Hare as Orgon, with previous National Theatre credits including The White Guard and Mutabililitie. Olivia Williams will play Elmire in the production, recently starring in Mosquitoes and Waste at the National Theatre.

The cast is completed by Kitty Archer, Nathan Armarkwei-Laryea, Fayez Bakhsh, Susan Engel, Kathy Kiera Clarke, Hari Dhillon, Matthew Duckett, Susan Engel, Henry Everett, Will Kelly, Geoffrey Lumb, Penelope McGhie, Kevin Murphy, Enyi Okoronkwo and Roisin Rae.

Tartuffe was last performed at the National Theatre in 2002, starring Martin Clunes as Tartuffe and David Threlfall as Orgon.

Tartuffe will open at the National Theatre on 9th February 2019, running for a limited season before closing on 30th April 2019.
