David Walliams’ Awful Auntie to reopen Bloomsbury Theatre this Christmas

The Bloomsbury Theatre is set to reopen after a three-and-a-half year renovation with an adaptation of David Walliams' best-selling children's book Awful Auntie over the Christmas period.

The theatre's refurbishment was initially planned to last a year, but it was forced to close its doors earlier than it planned in June 2015 after asbestos was found upon inspection.

It has now been announced that it will reopen on 12th December with the latest in a long line of Walliams' children's tales to be adapted for the stage. Awful Auntie is about a young girl called Stella, whose Aunt Alberta (and giant pet owl Wagner) is out to steal her inheritance from her. It will run at the theatre until 5th January.

Awful Auntie is one of six Walliams books to be adapted for the stage, along with the plays The Midnight Gang, Gangsta Granny and Ratburger, and the musicals Mr Stink and Billionaire Boy. The Boy in the Dress is set to become a musical at the RSC, with music by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, next year.

Awful Auntie will run at the Bloomsbury Theatre from 12th December to 5th January.
