Desperately Seeking Susan to close 15 Dec 2007

Desperately Seeking Susan, featuring the hits of Blondie, has posted early closing notices for 15 Dec 2007, after a run of only 2 months. (It was originaly booking to 19 April 2008)

The show opened at the Novello Theatre 15 Nov 2007, following previews from 12 Oct to mostly poor notices from the popular press: THE INDEPENDENT says, "Uninspired direction...terminally banal choreography." THE GUARDIAN says, "The show feels like a business product calculatedly tailored to appeal to Blondie fans." THE EVENING STANDARD says, "I succumbed last night to the narrative appeal of Peter Michael Marino's book." THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "I fear that Desperately Seeking Susan will leave most discerning theatregoers desperately seeking the nearest exit." THE TIMES says, "Where, oh where, is the show's imagination?"

The cast includes Emma Williams (Susan), Kelly Price (Roberta Glass), Leanne Best (Leslie), Mark McGee (Jay), Alec Newman (Des), Jonathan Wrather (Gary)

Music & lyrics by Blondie, Book and concept by Peter Michael Marino, based on the 1980s film written by Leora Barish.

It is directed by Angus Jackson, designs & costumes by Tim Hatley, lighting by Hugh Vanstone and choreography by Andy Blanenbuehler.

Produced by Susan Q Gillin, Ron Kastner, Mark Rubinstein, Old Vic Productions with Peter Kane, Nordby/Rawley, Mary Lu Roffe.

Alongside BLONDIE'S hits, including CALL ME, HEART OF GLASS, ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, SUNDAY GIRL, ATOMIC, THE TIDE IS HIGH, DREAMING and HANGING ON THE TELEPHONE, the production will also introduce MOMENT OF TRUTH, a new song especially written by Deborah Harry for DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN.

Roberta Glass, a suburban New Jersey housewife escapes her humdrum life by reading the personal ads placed by Susan, a street smart New York City drifter, and her free wheeling boyfriend Jay. Though a quirky twist of fate, Roberta and Susan unexpectedly swap lives and are plunged into a madcap world of jewel heists, magic shows and rock 'n' roll. The collison of their identities takes them on a wild ride of transformation and discovery until they realise that just when you think you know where your life is headed, something magical happens and turns it all around.....
