Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley to star in ‘Cabaret’
'Cabaret' performances will have a seating capacity of 550.
Following speculation that a West End revival of Cabaret was in the works, details on Cabaret have now been confirmed. Cabaret will now begin performances at the Kit Kat Club from November 2021, starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley.
The Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will play the Emcee. Previously, he's starred in Red, Richard II and The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? and Cabaret will be Redmayne's first West End role in a decade.
Jessie Buckley will play Sally Bowles. She recently starred in the National Theatre's film of Romeo and Juliet opposite Josh O'Connor, but has been in London productions of The Winter's Tale and Henry V.
Rebecca Frecknall will direct Cabaret. Speaking about the production, she said: "It's thrilling to be able to approach this classic and important musical at a time when its themes and atmosphere feel so contemporary and resonant. I'm in awe of my incredible creative team who have come together to create a bold new production as well as a new 'Kit Kat Club', a bespoke home where we can truly embrace and unlock the world of Cabaret for a new audience".
Scenic and costume design is by Tom Scutt, with choreography by Julia Cheng, lighting design by Isabella Byrd and sound design by Nick Lidster.
Set at the Kit Kat Club in 1930s Berlin, Cabaret follows a blossoming relationship between nightclub singer Sally Bowles and American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Cabaret features music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, with songs including "Money", "Maybe This Time" and "Don't Tell Mama".
For the London revival of Cabaret, the seating capacity will allow for a maximum of 550 patrons performances. Press material states Cabaret will be "the likes of which audiences will have never experienced before."
Further casting, as well as performance dates are to be announced soon. Details on Cabaret tickets in London will also be revealed in the coming weeks.
