Further cast and dates announced for National Theatre's production of Follies

Sondheim's musical returns to London.

Further casting has today been announced for the National Theatre's revival of Follies, which runs at the Olivier Theatre from 22 August to 4 November 2017, with an official opening on 6 September.

Featuring a book by James Goldman and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this production will mark the first staging of the show at the National Theatre. Directed by Dominic Cooke, it will feature a cast of 37 and orchestra of 21.

The cast will include Josephine Barstow, Tracie Bennett, Di Botcher, Billy Boyle, Janie Dee, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Peter Forbes, Emily Goodenough, Bruce Graham, Fred Haig, Aimee Hodnett, Dawn Hope, Liz Izen, Alison Langer, Emily Langham, Sarah Marie Maxwell, Kate Parr, Philip Quast, Edwin Ray, Gary Raymond, Adam Rhys-Charles, Jordan Shaw, Imelda Staunton, Barnaby Thompson, Christine Tucker and Alex Young with further casting to be announced.

"New York, 1971. There's a party on the stage of the Weismann Theatre. Tomorrow the iconic building will be demolished. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to have a few drinks, sing a few songs and lie about themselves. Including such classic songs as Broadway Baby, I'm Still Here and Losing My Mind."

The production will have design by Vicki Mortimer, choreography by Bill Deamer, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, musical director Nigel Lilley, lighting design by Paule Constable and sound design by Paul Groothuis.

Winner of Academy, Tony, Grammy and Olivier awards, Sondheim's previous work at the NT includes A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George.

Public booking for Follies will open on 5 May 2017.
