Further casting announced for Follies’ return at the National Theatre
Further casting has been announced for the return of Dominic Cooke's superlative revival of Stephen Sondheim's Follies, which returns to the National Theatre after its triumphant run last year.
From Valentine's Day next year, the production, which won the Olivier Award for Best Revival earlier this year, returns to the Olivier stage featuring two of its original cast: Peter Forbes and Janie Dee (who picked up an Olivier Award nomination for her performance).
Joining them will be Joanna Riding and Alexander Hanson as Sally and Ben - originally played by Imelda Staunton and Philip Quast - who return to the Weismann Theatre in New York 30 years after their final performance there, to say goodbye to the building and reminisce about their time together.
The musical features classic Sondheim songs such as "Broadway Baby", "I'm Still Here" and "Losing My Mind".
Follies returns to the Olivier at the National Theatre from 14th February, with tickets available now.
In a five-star review for LondonTheatre.co.uk last year, Mark Shenton hailed the show 'one of the best musicals in town', and a 'literally overwhelming experience'. The show also received many five star reviews from across the media.
The musical was widely recognised in many of the design categories at this year's Oliviers, with nominations for set (Vicky Mortimer) and lighting (Paule Constable), winning for costume (Mortimer), and a nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Music.
Follies is at the Olivier at the National Theatre from 14th February to 26th March 2019.
