" Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" new production by Trevor Nunn at Savoy Theatre from 25 Oct 2006

Gershwins' Porgy and Bess, will open at the Savoy Theatre on 9 Nov 2006, following previews from 25 Oct.

This new musical production has been adapted and re-worked from an opera into a 2½ hour musical by Trevor Nunn, who will also direct. The music has been specially adapted by Gareth Valentine.

This £3 million production featuring a 60-strong company, with 40 in the cast and a 20-piece orchestra, will begin rehearsals on 4 Sep 2006.

Porgy and Bess , with music by George Gershwin, lyrics by DuBose Heyward & Ira Gershwin and a book by Dubose Heyward, based on "Porgy" by Dubose Heyward and Dorothy Heyward, originally premiered on 10 Oct 1935 at the Alvin Theatre in New York in a production directed by Rouben Mamoulian.

The musical features famous songs such as as "Summertime", "I Got Plenty o' Nothin" and "It Ain't Necessarily So".

It is produced in London by Richard Frankel, Tom Viertel, Steven Baruch, Marc Routh, Howard Panter for Ambassador Theatre Group and Tulbart Productions.

The Rat Pack is currently playing at the Savoy theatre and still taking bookings to 18 Nov 2006. But expect a confirmation of its earlier closure date soon!
