Casting has been announced for Sarah Burgess' play Dry Powder, which opens at Hampstead Theatre in January.

The play is about a private equity firm which has forced layoffs a supermarket chain, but when one of the partners Rick throws an expensive engagement party (which involved a real elephant), it causes a PR nightmare. Seth spots an opportunity to spin the story and save the company's face, but Jenny, a third partner, has different ideas.

Hayley Atwell, known for her roles in television shows such as Black Mirror, Pillars of the Earth, and her Olivier Award-nominated performance in A View from the Bridge, will play Jenny. Aidan McArdle (The Secret Theatre) plays Rick alongside Tom Riley (Arcadia, Broadway) who plays Seth.

Dry Powder was first performed in New York, and starred Claire Danes, John Krasinski and Hank Azaria, and will get its UK premiere at the Hampstead. Burgess' other work includes Camdenside, FAIL: Failures and Kings.

Anna Ledwich returns to the theatre after directing Labyrinth, Kiss Me Kate, and the Olivier Award-nominated Four Minutes Twelve Seconds. Her other credits include The Stick House (Bristol Old Vic) and Lulu (Gate Theatre/Headlong).

Further casting for Dry Powder is to be announced.

Dry Powder is at Hampstead Theatre from 26th January to 3rd March, with an official opening night on 1st February.
