Don’t change the time just yet. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will play at Southwark Playhouse Elephant later this year. Previews begin on 22 May, with an opening night on 8 June, and performances to 1 July.

Based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald story of the same name, the musical follows Benjamin Button, an old man at the beginning of his life. When he meets barmaid Elowen Keene, their love story defies the odds.

Jamie Parker will play Benjamin Button. The two-time Olivier-winning actor originated the role of Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and played Sky Masterson in Guys & Dolls.

Molly Osborne will play Elowen Keene. She’s previously starred in The Sex Party, Indecent, and Fiddler on the Roof, all at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

The 12-strong cast includes Matthew Burns, Jonathan Charles, Oonagh Cox, Anna Fordham, Philippa Hogg, Damien James, Ann Marcuson, Jack Quarton, Benedict Salter, and Tonny Shim.

“It’s a show about time, and home, and love – things that I’m sure have new meaning for most of us after these years of uncertainty,” said playwright Jethro Compton. Compton writes the book and lyrics, directs, and designs the production.

Darren Clark writes music and lyrics, with choreography and movement by Chi-San Howard, costume design by Anna Kelsey, and sound design by Luke Swaffield.
