Casting has been announced for the upcoming production of The Niceties at the Finborough Theatre, which will receive its European premiere next month.

Written by Eleanor Burgess, the play follows an ambitious black student and her white professor at an elite university in East coast America. While discussing an assignment on the American Revolution, their differing views expose ideological divides that turn private discussions into a public conversation.

Janie Dee will star as Janine, the professor. Recently starring in Follies at the National Theatre, Dee's notable stage credits include Olivier Award-winning performances in Carousel at the National Theatre, Comic Potential at the Lyric Theatre.

Moronke Akinola will make her professional stage debut as Zoe, the student.

Ahead of starring in the production, Janie Dee said: "When I read The Niceties, I felt a blast of fear go through me. It affected me and it left me thinking. Eleanor (Burgess) has written a fresh, intelligent play which captures the voice and tone of today's university student and graduate generation so precisely."

The Niceties is at Finborough Theatre from 1st October to 26th October.
