YouTuber and Strictly Come Dancing runner-up Joe Sugg is set to make his acting debut in the West End production of Waitress next month.

Sugg, who has over 8 million subscribers on the online video platform, will play the role of Ogie, currently played by Blake Harrison, from 9th September. Harrison, who is best known for playing Neil in The Inbetweeners and also made his West End debut in the show, will play his final performance on 7th September.

Sugg first found fame on YouTube creating prank, challenge and impression videos for his audience, which led to a successful graphic novel series titled Username, and a travel series with fellow YouTuber Caspar Lee. Last year, Sugg participated in the 16th series of Strictly Come Dancing, placing in the final four with partner Dianne Buswell.

Announcing his casting, Sugg said: "I got to see the show a couple of months back and it's absolutely fantastic. I'm excited to be a part of the cast and to have now landed a role in the West End really has topped off an incredible year for me.

"I hope I do everyone proud and thanks to all my supporters for making it all possible and the best year yet."

He joins Lucie Jones, Laura Baldwin, and Marisha Wallace in the cast of Waitress, which tells the story of Jenna, a waitress with a passion for making pies who sees her hobby as her escape from difficult relationships and personal situation.

Based on the 2007 film by Adrienne Shelly, the musical has songs by "Love Song" writer Sara Bareilles, with a book by Jessie Nelson, direction by Dian Paulus and choreography by Lorin Latarro.

Waitress is booking at the Adelphi Theatre until 4th January 2020.
