Ian Kelsey has extended his run by a further four weeks and will star as ‘Billy Flynn’ until 25 Nov 2006. Amra-Faye Wright, Julian Sims and Brenda Edwards will continue to star as ‘Velma Kelly’, ‘Amos Hart’ and ‘Mama Morton’.
Josefina Gabrielle will be playing ‘Roxie Hart’ for a fifth season - having prevously played the part for several months in 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2005. Her other stage credits 'Laurey' in the National Theatre production of "Oklahoma!", both in London and on Broadway, 'Kathy Seldon' in "Singin' in the Rain" at Leicester Haymarket and Sadler's Wells; and 'Alexandra' in "The Witches of Eastwick" at the Prince of Wales.
The London production of Chicago will celebrate its ninth anniversary on 18 November, when it will have played 3,743 performances to an audience of over 4 million people.
Chicago, opened at the Adelphi Theatre 18 Nov 1997, following previews from 27 Oct 1997, ending at the Adelphi theatre on 22 April 2006. It re-opened at the Cambridge Theatre on 28 April 2006, where it is currently taking bookings to 14 April 2007.
Chicago, is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Scenic design is by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Rick Clarke. Musical supervision is by Rob Fisher and musical direction by Gareth Valentine. It is choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and directed by Walter Bobbie.
The musical concerns Roxie, a chorus girl who has murdered her lover but manages to get acquitted with the help of sleazy lawyer.
