American TV, stage and film star Maxwell Caulfield will star as ‘Billy Flynn’ in Chicago on Tuesday 29 May 2007 for a limited five-week season, finishing on 30 June 2007.
Best known for his starring roles in “Dynasty” and “The Colbys”, Maxwell Caulfield recently starred in the Broadway productions of “Tryst”, “My Deah” and “Our Leading Lady”. His other Broadway credits include “An Inspector Calls”, “My Night With Reg”, “Entertaining Mr Sloane” and “Class Enemy”. He starred in the American national tours of “Sleuth” and “The Elephant Man” (in which he met and married his leading lady Juliet Mills). His other television includes “La Femme Nikita” and “Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman”. His films include “Dream City”, “The Real Blonde”, “The Man Who Knew Too Much”, “Grease 2” and “The Boys Next Door”.
Chicago currently stars Josefina Gabrielle as ‘Roxie Hart’, Amra-Faye Wright as ‘Velma Kelly’, Matthew Lloyd Davies as ‘Amos Hart’, Susie McKenna as ‘Mama Morton’.
Chicago, opened at the Adelphi Theatre 18 Nov 1997, following previews from 27 Oct 1997, ending at the Adelphi theatre on 22 April 2006. It re-opened at the Cambridge Theatre on 28 April 2006, where it is currently taking bookings to 6 Oct 2007
Chicago, is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, has a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Scenic design is by John Lee Beatty, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting by Ken Billington and sound by Rick Clarke. Musical supervision is by Rob Fisher and musical direction by Gareth Valentine. It is choreographed by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse and directed by Walter Bobbie.
The musical concerns Roxie, a chorus girl who has murdered her lover but manages to get acquitted with the help of sleazy lawyer.
