New production of 'The Snowman' to open in London
Based on the picture book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson, with music and libretto by Howard Blake, The Snowman follows a boy whose snowman comes to life on Christmas Eve.
A new production of The Snowman will open at the Peacock Theatre in London this winter. The show has been running as part of the Christmas season at the venue for 28 years.
Based on the picture book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson, with music and libretto by Howard Blake, The Snowman follows a boy whose snowman comes to life on Christmas Eve.
The new production will open at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre in October, before transferring to the Peacock Theatre from 21 November to 3 January 2027.
Director and choreographer Will Tuckett said: “I am thrilled to be creating this new version of The Snowman, a story that has charmed and delighted so many for so long. I remember getting Raymond Briggs’ book from Father Christmas, then on Boxing Day a few years later, sitting with my family to watch the wonderful film.
“Howard Blake’s score runs through the veins of so many of us, and to have been given the responsibility of reimagining this story, to that music, for new generations is a privilege.”
The production also has design by Anna Fleischle, video design by Nina Dunn, illusions by Chris Fisher and puppet design by Daisy Beattie.
