Nicholas Hytner to stage immersive Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Bridge Theatre
Nicholas Hytner will direct an immersive version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Bridge Theatre, it has been announced.
The production will wrap seating around the stage, and invite audience members to follow the action on foot, much like this year's production of Julius Caesar at the theatre.
Running from 3rd June 2019, the production will reunite many of the Caesar creative team, with designs by Bunny Christie, costumes by Christina Cunningham, lighting by Bruno Poet and sound by Paul Arditti, and music from Grant Olding.
Casting is to be announced for what is Hytner's first production of the play, despite being a seasoned Shakespearean director.
It has also been announced the Laura Linney will reprise her role in My Name is Lucy Barton. Linney made her London debut in the play, which is based on the novel by Elizabeth Strout's best-selling novel.
Rona Munro's adaptation is directed by Richard Eyre, and it will return to the Bridge for 26 performances from 23rd January 2019.
Casting has also been announced for Lucinda Coxon's play Alys, Always, which is based on the novel by Harriet Lane. Directed by Hytner, Joanne Froggatt will star in the central role of Frances, a newspaper worker who comes across a car crash, and finds herself sucked into the family drama that ensues. The production will also star Robert Glenister when it runs from 25th February 2019.
