Old Vic announces cast for 'High Society'
The Old Vic Theatre in south London has announced casting for its upcoming revival of the Cole Porter musical High Society, which will run from 30 April to 20 August 2015, with an official opening on 14 May 2015.
Kate Fleetwood will star as socialite Tracy Lord alongside Rupert Young as C.K. Dexter Haven, Jamie Parker as Mike Connor, Barbara Flynn as Margaret Lord, Anabel Scholey as Liz Imbrie and Ellie Bamber as Dinah Lord.
Directed by Maria Friedman, the musical features music and lyrics by Cole Porter, book by Arthur Kopit and additional lyrics by Susan Birkenhead. It is based on the play 'The Philadelphia Story' by Philip Barry, and the film of the same name. It will feature musical direction by Theo Jamieson.
"Long Island socialite Tracy Lord is planning her lavish summer wedding when her ex-husband appears to try and win her back. His unwelcome arrival threatens to disrupt proceedings. When tabloid reporter Mike Connor arrives to cover the nuptials, he too takes a shine to the bride-to-be. But which of these three suitors will she choose?"
The production, which will be staged in the round, will feature a 12-piece band and jazz pianist Joe Stilgoe. The score will features songs from the film such as "Swell Party", "True Love" and "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" along with additional songs from the Cole Porter catalogue.
Production design will be by Tom Pye, with choreography by Nathan M Wright, lighting design by Peter Mumford and sound design by Simon Baker.
