Rowan Atkinson is out of Oliver! for 3 weeks with an hernia - Russ Abbot takes over role of Fagin for two weeks from 13 April. Tim Laurenti is currently playing Fagin to 11 April.
A Statement says, "Rowan Atkinson has been nursing the problem for a few weeks but it flared up badly whilst on a break with his family this week. He has cut short his holiday to fly back to have surgery immediately to speed the recovery process. The condition, whilst neither serious nor dangerous, is extremely painful and prevents normal movement, making performing impossible."
The cast includes Winner of BBC reality show 'I'd Do Anything' Jodie Prenger who continues to play 'Nancy' until to 12 Dec 2009 and Rowan Atkinson is expected to return to the role of 'Fagin' on 27 April, until 18 July 09, then from 20 July Omid Djalili will take over the role until to 12 Dec 2009.
Oliver!, opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on 14 Jan 2009, following previews from 12 Dec 2008 to reasonably good notices from the popular press: THE DAILY TELEGRAPH says, "A cracking night of tuneful entertainment." THE EVENING STANDARD says, "I felt director Rupert Goold, came up with a traditional, unadventurous Oliver."
It is directed by Rupert Goold & Matthew Bourne, designed by Anthony Ward, lighting by Paule Constable , choreography by Matthew Bourne, sound by Paul Groothuis, Orchestrations by William D Brohn and musical supervision by Martin Koch. Produced by Cameron Mackintosh in association with the Southbrook Group Limited.
