RuPaul’s Drag Race’s Todrick Hall to star in Chicago as Billy Flynn
RuPaul's Drag Race star Todrick Hall is set to star in the West End production of Chicago at the Phoenix Theatre as he takes over the role of Billy Flynn.
Hall is known in the US for being a semi-finalist in the ninth series of American Idol. He later joined RuPaul's show in 2016 as a judge. He has previously played the role of Billy Flynn in Chicago on Broadway, as well as playing Lola in Kinky Boots.
Joining Sarah Soetaert as Roxie Hart, Josefina Gabrielle as Velma Kelly, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton and Paul Rider as Amos Hart, Hall will take over the role from 19th November 2018 until the end of the musical's run on 5th January 2019.
Kander and Ebb's musical Chicago returned to the West End in March earlier this year, starring Cuba Gooding Jnr as Flynn. The role was taken over by Martin Kemp, and then by Duncan James, who will play the role until 17th November.
Set in a prison, the musical tells the story of different women looking to be released with the help of big-time lawyer Billy Flynn. It includes the songs "All That Jazz", "We Both Reached For the Gun", "Cell Block Tango" and "Mr Cellophane". It originally ran in London for 15 years, opening at the Adelphi in 1997.
Chicago is at the Phoenix Theatre until 5th January 2019.
Chicago tickets are available now.
