Seven Dials Playhouse to open with ‘Steve’ in 2022
David Ames and Jenna Russell will star in the European premiere.
A new 100-seat venue will open in the West End's Seven Dials area next year — aptly named the Seven Dials Playhouse. The Seven Dials Playhouse will open in early 2022 with the European premiere of Steve, running from 8 February - 19 March.
Mark Gerrard's Steve follows the highs and lows of getting older, navigating friendships and the thrill of being alive. Cynthia Nixon directed Steve at New York's Pershing Square Signature Center in 2015, and a New York Theatre Guide review hailed Steve as a mastermind play, saying: "What you thought was your very clear focus is continually diverted and channeled into new streams... It is productions like this that remind you why you go to the theatre."
David Ames and Jenna Russell will star in Steve at the Seven Dials Playhouse. Andrew Keates will direct the production, with further casting and a creative team to be announced.
The Seven Dials Playhouse will aim to present a year-round programme of contemporary plays and musicals, as well as events relating to themes in its productions. The Seven Dials Playhouse is a rebrand of The Actors Centre, and is led by chief executive Amanda Davey.
Speaking about the plans, she said: "When the organisation first opened in 1978, it was conceived as a place for actors to hone their craft and create networks. Many see it as a safe space in the heart of the West End... Our renewed mission is to be the West End's creative home for the development of professional theatre and artists."
