This is shucking great news! The new musical Shucked will premiere in London in 2024. It will play a venue owned by Cameron Mackintosh, the producer and theatre owner announced today.

"Shucked is that rarity: a completely original musical and the funniest show since The Book of Mormon, with a terrifically tuneful rollicking country and western score," Mackintosh said. "It’s snuck up on Broadway and is proving to be the most talked-about hit of the season. The corn at the heart of Shucked will have you husky with limitless laughter!"

Shucked is a musical about a small town whose beloved corn crop begins to die, prompting farmgirl Maizy to leave the town — becoming the first person to ever do so — and seek outside help, shaking up the townsfolks' way of life for good. A four-star New York Theatre Guide review calls Shucked "the countrified, comedic cream of the crop."

The show premiered on Broadway in 2023, earning nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Direction of a Musical. Five-time Tony winner Jack O'Brien (Hairspray) directs, and the book is by Tony winner Robert Horn.

The country-flavored score is by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, songwriters known for writing hits for Kacey Musgraves, Reba McEntire, and dozens more chart-topping country artists.

Information on the venue, performance dates, cast, and ticketing for Shucked in London has yet to be announced.
