Taylor Mac's 'Holiday Sauce' to open at Soho Theatre Walthamstow this Christmas

Featuring musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra in the band, Holiday Sauce will blend "music, burlesque and random acts of fabulousness in the most subversive and cathartic event of the season".

Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Taylor Mac will bring their alternative festive show Holiday Sauce to Soho Theatre Walthamstow this winter. Performances will run at the venue from 17-23 December.

Featuring musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra in the band, Holiday Sauce will blend "music, burlesque and random acts of fabulousness in the most subversive and cathartic event of the season".

Mac said: “My mantra during the holiday season is: when the sun gives less, the heart gives more. In a time of darkness (greed, fascism, and isolation), we gather to laugh, recognise, and sing the light back to us.”

Steve Lock, Soho Theatre’s Head of Comedy, said: "We first saw the remarkable Taylor Mac perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2006 and presented Taylor’s London debut at Soho Theatre the following year. 20 years later, with Taylor having blossomed into one of the most acclaimed and exciting theatre artists in the world, we are bringing Holiday Sauce to Soho Theatre Walthamstow – a brilliant and very Soho way to celebrate the end of the year."

Holiday Sauce will feature costumes by Mac's long-time collaborator Machine Dazzle and a band led by music director Matt Ray.

Prior to this festive engagement, Mac will also perform the UK orchestral premiere of A 24-Decade History of Popular Music with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall on 26 November. The show will respond to current events in the US while celebrating the communities and voices that have helped shape America’s history.

The show features costume design by Machine Dazzle, with musical direction by Matt Ray and orchestral arrangements by Ted Hearne. Alan Pierson conducts.
