Rupert Goold directs the musical adaptation of Paweł Pawlikowski’s Academy Award-nominated Cold War, with performances at the Almeida Theatre from 30 November to 27 January 2024.

The new musical will feature music from the original film with new songs by Grammy Award-winner Elvis Costello. The cast includes Anya Chalotra, Elliot Levey and Luke Thallon.

Almeida Artistic Director Rupert Goold said in a statement: "When I first saw Paweł Pawlikowski’s film Cold War, I was swept away by its beauty, passion and style. Its theatricality struck me as ripe for a stage adaption. So, I’m incredibly excited to be presenting Conor McPherson’s adaptation, with music by Elvis Costello."

Adapted from the Oscar-nominated 2018 film by Paweł Pawlikowski, Cold War follows the love story between a talented singer and a reclusive composer in a postwar Poland. The film was nominated for three Academy Awards and four BAFTAs.
