The Drifters Girl musical tells the story of how the 1950s vocal backing group, The Drifters, became international superstars. The Drifters centres on how their manager Faye Treadwell helped the band’s career, while navigating public and private issues.
Beverley Knight plays Faye Treadwell in The Drifters Girl to 2 July. Casting for Faye Treadwell from 3 July is to be revealed. Adam J Bernard, Tarinn Callender, Matt Henry and Tosh Wanogho-Maud play the Drifters.
In The Drifters Girl review for London Theatre, our critic said: “Beverley Knight is the shining star of the jukebox bio-musical. It’s not just the vocal might, the big top notes and swooping riffs, but the way she invests each line with emotional authenticity — a blend of determination and doubt, joy and heartbreak.”
The Drifters Girl cast is completed by Marcus Ayton, Ashford Campbell, Ethan Davis, Vanessa Ela Young, Michael James Stewart, Alanna Leslie, Curtis Scott, and the young actors are Aurora Baptiste, Amari Brown, Savanna Musoni, Savannah Skinner-Henry and Shanyia Tsoto.
Jonathan Church directs The Drifters Girl, which features an original story based on an idea by Tina Treadwell and a book by Ed Curtis. Set design is by Anthony Ward, with choreography by Karen Bruce, costume design by Fay Fullerton, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Tom Marshall.
