THEATRE DIRECTOR, SIR PETER HALL, IS 70 YEARS OLD TODAY.

Theatre director, SIR PETER HALL, is  70 years old, today, Wednesday 22nd Nov 00.

His full name is Sir Peter Reginald Frederick Hall.

He directed his first professional  production in 1953 at the Theatre Royal Royal, Windsor. A year later he was in London, at the Arts Theatre, where among other plays he directed Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" and Anouilh's "The Waltz of the Toreadors".

In 1960 he became  the Managing Director of the newly formed Royal Shakespeare Company(RSC). He resigned in 1968, though he remained Co-Director and continued to direct plays for the company. 

From 1973 to 1988 he was Director of the National Theatre, and in the 90s Sir Peter formed his own  rep company  'The Peter Hall Company', which had seasons at the Old Vic and Piccadilly Theatre.

His epic production of TANTALUS goes on a UK tour in January before arriving at the Barbican Centre on 30th April as part of the BITE season. The ten-hour cycle, written by John Barton and adapted by Peter Hall, recounts the events of The Trojan War.  The cast includes GREG HICKS, ANN MITCHELL and  DAVID RYALL.
