THEATRE STARS IN NEW YEAR HONOURS LIST
Theatre actors in the New Year Honours List 2003 include Alan Bates (knighted); Brenda Blethyn (OBE); Edward Fox (OBE).
68-year-old Alan Bates, now becomes Sir Alan. His West End theatre credits in recent times include: "The Master Builder" at the Haymarket in 1995, "Life Support" at the Aldwych in 1997, and "Antony and Cleopatra" for the RSC in 2000 at the Barbican. His film credits include "Georgy Girl", "A Kind Of Loving", "The Fixer", where he was nominated for his only Oscar, in 1969, and, most recently, costume drama "Gosford Park".
65-year-old Edward Fox (OBE). His West End credits in recent times include "The Chiltern Hundreds" at the Vaudeville in 1999, "A Letter of Resignation" at the Comedy in 1997 and Savoy in 1998. His most famous TV role was as the Duke of Windsor in 1978 TV series "Edward and Mrs Simpson".
Brenda Blethyn (OBE). Her West End credits include "Habeas Corpus" at the Donmar in 1996, and she is currently starring in "Mrs Warren's Profession" at the Strand. In films she picked up Oscar nominations in 1997 for "Secrets and Lies", and the following year for "Little Voice"
Also receiving a OBE is theatre director Michael Blakemore.
