Two productions from Theatre Royal Plymouth will make the journey north from Devon to run at the Southwark Playhouse early next year.

Titled 'Strange Tales (from the West Country)', the short season will see Glenn Waldron's The Here and This and Now and Mikhail Durnenkov's The War Has Not Yet Started run in rep in The Little space at the venue.

Directed by Theatre Royal Plymouth's artistic director Simon Stokes, The Here and This and Now is a comedy about a recently hired sales team from a pharmaceutical company on an office away day, during which they learn more about the drugs and products they are selling. Waldron's play Natives ran at Southwark Playhouse last year, starring actress Ella Purnell. His latest play will run at the theatre from 10th January to 10th February, with an official opening night on 12th January.

In twelve parables, The War Has Not Yet Started taps into the fears and oddities of everyday life, such as sexual gamesmanship, how to deal with ageing parents and infidelity. Russian playwright Durnenkov's work has been translated by Noah Birksted-Breen and directed by Gordon Anderson. Durnenkov's previous work includes The Drunks, which he wrote with his brother and was staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2009. It runs in London from 17th January to 10th February, with an official opening on 19th January.

Full casting for both productions is to be announced.

Stokes, who has been the artistic director for 18 years, said: "It's exciting to show the most recent work of these two distinctive playwrights, one, a cosmopolitan Russian and the other a sophisticated, media-savvy Plymothian, to the wider audience beyond the far south west country. Individually, I think these stories are both a great night out".
