'West Side Story' to be revived at National Theatre

The show will be co-directed in a new production by Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell, who reunite following their award-winning revival of Death of a Salesman.

A revival of West Side Story will be staged in the National's Olivier Theatre in winter 2027. The show has been revealed as part of the venue's 2027 season announcement.

This new production will use conceiver Jerome Robbins's (Gypsy) original choreography, reproduced and adapted by Julio Monge, who was an artistic collaborator and consultant on Steven Spielberg's 2021 film adaptation.

The musical has a book by Arthur Laurents (Gypsy), with music by Leonard Bernstein (On the Town) and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (Follies). The production will be co-directed in a new production by Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell, who reunite following their award-winning revival of Death of a Salesman.

Further artistic team, casting, and performance dates are to be announced.
