Jesse Eisenberg was born in 1983 in Queens, New York, where he attended the High School of Performing Arts. It was here where he received his role in Roger Dodger comedy film, winning Most Promising New Actor at the San Diego film festival. His first professional theatre role was at the age of 16 where he played Michael in the off-Broadway play, The Gathering.
Eisenberg is better known for his roles in feature films such as Zombieland and The Social Network, where he played Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg. The latter saw him receive the Best Actor Award from the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures and also a variety of BAFTA, Golden Globes and Academy Awards nominations. Other notable films include Now You See Me (2013), starring alongside Michael Caine and the blockbuster Batman V Superman (2016). It was also announced that he will appear in the upcoming Justice League (2017) film.
2011 saw Eisenberg making his playwright debut at Cherry Lane Theatre where he starred and wrote, Asuncion, directed by Kip Fagan. This was followed by his 2013 play The Revisionist, both of which receiving positive reviews from critics. Eisenberg is also a proud cast member of the Theater of War, which is a not-for-profit performing arts company that performs Greek tragedies to military and civilian communities.
Eisenberg’s West End debut, titled The Spoils is set to run from 2 June 2016 until 13 August 2016 at Trafalgar Studio One. The Spoils, which premiered Off Broadway, is Eisenberg’s third playwright starring himself alongside, Big Bang Theory’s Kunal Nayyar and Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen. In an Interview with us Jesse Eisenberg explains that “The play is a comedy … it discusses things that are more substantive, themes such as immigration, race, privilege, capitalism – stuff I'm interested in”.
