Kunal Nayyar was born in Honslow, London in 1981, after which moving to New Delhi at the age of three. At 18 Nayyar move to the US to persue a degree in Business Finance, before deciding to take a career as a professional actor and attend Temple University, receiving a Master of Fine Arts in Acting.
Nayyar started his theatre career in Los Angeles where he played the role of Navin in Huck and Holden 2006. He then returned to the London to perform in Love’s Labour’s Lost for the Royal Shakespeare Company which then went to Washington with the Shakespeare Theatre Company.
He is, perhaps, best known for his role in The Big Bang Theory TV series as main character, Raj Koothrappali. The show has had international success winning the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Comedy. Other television success for the actor include when he played Vijay in Sanjay and Craig and Sendhil in The Mindy Project. Some of the films Nayyar have appeared include Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), The Scribbler (2014) and Trolls (2016).
Nayyar makes his West End debut in Jesse Eisenberg’s play titled The Spoils, the play was debuted off Broadway in 2015 and received positive reviews. Nayyar will play the role of Kalyan alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Game of Throne’s Alfie Allen. The show is set to run at the Trafalgar Studio One from 2 June 2016 until 13 August 2016.
