A new 50th anniversary production of Joe Orton's farce Loot has been announced to run at The Park Theatre in north London from 17 August to 24 September 2017, with an official opening on 23 August.

Produced by Tom O'Connell, James Seabright and The Watermill Theatre in association with King's Head Theatre and Park Theatre it will then transfer to the Watermill Theatre from 28 September. The production is directed by Michael Fentiman and is designed by Gabriella Slade with lighting design by Elliot Griggs and sound design by Max Pappenheim.

"Uproarious slapstick meets dubious morals as two young friends, Hal and Dennis, stash the proceeds of a bank robbery in an occupied coffin, attempting to hide their spoils from the attentions of a psychopathic policeman, a gold-digging nurse and a grieving widower."

The black comedy was named one of the National Theatre's "100 Plays of the Century" and originally premiered at the Cochrane Theatre on 27 September 1966. Starring Gerry Duggan, Sheila Ballantine and Kenneth Cranham it later transferred to the Criterion Theatre in November 1966 where it went on to win the Evening Standard Award for Play of the Year. Numerous London revivals have since been mounted including a production directed by Albert Finney at the Royal Court Theatre in 1975. It was later staged in the West End at the Lyric Theatre in 1984, the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre in 1992 and was last seen at the Tricycle Theatre in 2008.

Casting for this new production is to be announced.
