Andrew Scott to star in Simon Stephens’ Sea Wall at The Old Vic

Andrew Scott will star in a special production of Simon Stephens' play Sea Wall as part of the bicentenary celebrations at The Old Vic. 

Sea Wall is a short play which was written for Scott by Stephens, and is about a man named Alex who speaks of his wife, visiting his father in the south of France, and his daughter, peppered with musings about religion and beliefs. 

It was first performed at the Bush Theatre in 2008, and went on the be seen at the National Theatre, and in Dublin. 

Scott, who last year played Hamlet in Robert Icke's acclaimed production, said: "I'm so excited to return to The Old Vic. Sea Wall, to my mind, is a stunning piece of writing, and the idea of performing Simon's beautiful play in this most magical of theatres makes me really happy. Thanks Matthew for having us. I hope The Old Vic audiences will love the play as much as I do."

Sea Wall will play The Old Vic from 18th to 30th June. It will be directed by George Perrin of Paines Plough who said he was "thrilled" that The Old Vic was making "new writing of this quality accessible to so many people".

Stephens said: "This news has just about made my summer. 

"The collaboration with George Perrin and Andrew Scott on Sea Wall is as special as any collaboration in my working life. The idea that we can bring our work to a theatre as magical and magnificent as The Old Vic quite fills my heart and blows my mind". 

Sea Wall is at The Old Vic from 18th to 30th June.
