Apollo Victoria Theatre 80th Birthday Gala Performance

Apollo Victoria Theatre 80th Birthday Gala Performance, a showcase of songs which have been performed on the theatre's stage over its 80 years, will take place on Sunday 10 Oct 2010 (Ticket go on Sale 13 Aug).

The show, created by Wicked's UK Associate Director, Petra Siniawski and UK Dance Supervisor, Adam Murray, will feature the stars of Wicked (past and present including Lee Mead and Oliver Thompsett). The Gala Performance will also feature Sharon D Clarke (original Killer Queen in WE WILL ROCK YOU), members of the original casts of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, BOMBAY DREAMS and MOVIN' OUT, the JERSEY BOYS, Patina Miller (SISTER ACT) and a very special one-off reunion of performers from the Apollo Victoria's longest-running show Starlight Express, with many more to be announced and special guests.

The Gala Performance will be the finale to a day of celebrations which will see the venue, noted for its architectural significance, opened to the public for talks, tours and a specially curated display telling the building's varied and fascinating story.

All excess proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Cancer Research UK. There will also be a raffle of amazing prizes in support of the Entertainment Artiste's Benevolent Fund on the evening itself.

The Apollo Victoria Theatre opened as the New Victoria Theatre on October 15th 1930, a landmark Art Deco super-cinema and theatre. Following the decline of cinema in the late-1950s it was refurbished and staged ballet, rock and pop shows and from 1980 large-scale musicals, including one of the West End's longest musical runs - STARLIGHT EXPRESS. Also THE SOUND OF MUSIC, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, BOMBAY DREAMS and, since 2006, WICKED.
