HAMPSTEAD THEATRE PROTESTS

Building work started on the new £16 million Hampstead Theatre last Monday with a celebrity turnout at a ceremony at the theatre's new site at Eton Avenue. However, they were greeted by placard waving protesters angered by Camden Council's handling of the controversial Swiss Cottage development, which includes the Hampstead theatre.

The protesters claim that the whole redevelopment of the site will leave the area without an all-weather sports pitch and a reduced sports centre. They claim that the site is the last remaining green site in Swiss Cottage. (The theatre is still expected to be built as per schedule!)
