Imelda Staunton joins A Delicate Balance at Almeida Theatre

Cast update for A Delicate Balance, by Edward Albee, which opens at the Almeida Theatre, an off West End venue, on 12 May 2011, following previews from 5 May - running to 2 July 2011.

Imelda Staunton (Claire) and Lucy Cohu (Julia), will join previously mentioned Penelope Wilton (Agnes).

Imelda Staunton's London stage credits includes "Entertaining Mr Sloane" at the Trafalgar Studios 1 in 2009; "There Came A Gypsy Riding" at the Almeida in 2007; "Calico" at the Duke of York's in 2004; "LIFE x 3" at the Lyttelton, NT & Old Vic in 2000/01; "Guys and Dolls" at the Olivier, NT in 1996/97 "Habeas Corpus" at the Donmaer Warehouse in 1996.

It is directed by James Macdonald, designed by Laura Hopkins.

Urban socialites Agnes and Tobias appear to inhabit a glamorous world of drinks parties and social clubs. The return home of their recently divorced daughter, the constant presence of Agnes' alcoholic sister and the impromptu late-night arrival of some close friends, begin to peel away this veneer. As their lives become increasingly claustrophobic, the characters battle with their fear of stepping into the real world, opting instead for the undemanding familiarity of their own drawing room.
