The X Factor judge Louis Walsh is set to make his stage debut in the stage adaptation of Nativity the Musical, which opens in Birmingham later this month.

The musical is adapted from the 2009 film of the same name, which starred Martin Freeman as a school teacher in competition with a rival school to put on the best Christmas play.

Walsh will make his debut as the 'Hollywood Producer' in London run of the production, which also stars Simon Lipkin, Sarah Earnshaw, Andy Brady, Jemma Churchill, Jamie Chapman and Daniel Boys, as well as a cast of 27 children.

In a statement, Walsh said: "I am thrilled to be joining the cast of Nativity the Musical in London this December. I am a great fan of the films and I can't wait to get started as the Hollywood Producer to see if the class of St Bernadette's really have the X Factor".

After a run at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, the musical will run at the Eventim Apollo in London from 13th to 17th December.
