My Night With Reg transfers to Apollo Theatre in January
Donmar Warehouse, Arielle Tepper Madover and Eleanor Lloyd Productions will present a transfer of the Donmar's 20th Anniversary revival production of Kevin Elyot's Olivier Award-winning comedy My Night With Reg, directed by Robert Hastie. The production will begin previews at the Apollo Theatre on 17 January 2015, before an official opening on 23 January, and play a limited engagement through to 11 April 2015.
The whole cast seen recently at the Donmar Warehouse are set to reprise their respective roles, including Matt Bardock (Benny), Jonathan Broadbent (Guy), Richard Cant (Bernie), Julian Ovenden (John), Lewis Reeves (Eric) and Geoffrey Streatfeild (Daniel).
The comedy is "set in London’s gay community in the summer of 1985 against the backdrop of the mounting AIDS crisis. At Guy’s London flat, old friends and new gather to party through the night. This is the summer of 1985 and, for Guy and his circle, the world is about to change forever."
The creative team behind My Night With Reg features scenic design by Peter McKintosh, lighting by Paul Pyant and sound design by Gregory Clarke.
The playwright Kevin Elyot sadly passed away on 7 June 2014, after a long illness, at the age of 62. He never got to see the 20th Anniversary production at the Donmar. The Birmingham-born Elyot began his career as an actor before making his professional writing debut at the Bush Theatre in 1982 with 'Coming Clean'. He garnered critical acclaim, as his play My Night With Reg won the 1995 Olivier Award for Best Comedy. Over the years, his work has been staged in the West End, at the National Theatre, the Royal Court and Royal Shakespeare Company.
Urinetown The Musical, which is currently playing at the Apollo Theatre will now close 2 weeks early on 10 Jan 2015
